I started the Permaculture Design Course!
It’s been two days of immersing into a space of rich experience, raw enthusiasm, and practical skill-building that has revved me up with gratitude and hope to be alive.
There’s two more full days coming up as well as family and friends visiting, so I’m gonna keep this one short and follow up with details later.
Instead of answering the Big Question of “What is permaculture?”, I’ll leave you with another:
How do we take responsibility for our existence and the existence of our children?
That’s one of the questions I’m exploring - and I invite you to explore it with me in another chance to write together.
Finally, i want to share a new poem, written on a spontaneous walk by the side of a small stream near my home.
I call it “water striders.”
what does it feel like to stand on water?
today, i stumbled upon a place i could sit
and watch the idle water strider
wondering
how it is
to perch
on that crystalline lake
the clear flat surface
upon which they sit
and skip about
what do they see?
the blue sky above?
the green leaves on the wind?
the sandy ground beneath the surface?
or their reflections, an eternal companion,
mirroring their every move?
perhaps
they think
they are dancing,
a duet that is for life
hands held in perfect peace
the flit across the silk
movement synchronized
in such harmony
dancing
without touch.
ever-touching
who am i to say they are not?
thanks for reading!
you may have noticed the number of this issue jumped significantly…
at one point when I switched over the style of this space, I decided to restart the count. but now i’m realizing bigger numbers feel more inspiring, so why not go with the true total?
anyways, i hear my nephew playing downstairs.
it’s time for me to hop of this screen, play around, and head out to learn more on this fine sunday.
sending you love and curiosity with a heart full of gratitude your way,
- sam
